Jumilla

Jumilla, in the northeast of the Region of Murcia and bordering the province of Alicante, is one of the great lands of Monastrell in Spain. Its winemaking tradition dates back to Roman times and today it has its own designation of origin, DO Jumilla, famous for its powerful Monastrell reds from dry farming.

It shares with Alicante the Mediterranean inland landscape, the dry and bright climate, and the same dominant variety; indeed, some wineries in the area also produce wines under the DOP Alicante.

Visiting Jumilla is to immerse oneself in a sea of Monastrell vineyards crowned by its medieval castle. The town offers numerous wineries to visit, tastings, and a rich inland gastronomy.

Its proximity to the wine regions of Vinalopó makes it a natural extension of a wine route through the southeastern peninsula.
