The orchard of Sant Joan d'Alacant, irrigated for centuries by the waters of the Tibi Reservoir, was cultivated land in the Camp d'Alacant. Located in the heart of the Costa Blanca and just a stone's throw from the city of Alicante, Sant Joan d'Alacant boasts being "close to everything": close to the beach, the mountains, and the capital. Its history is linked to the Camp d'Alacant and the orchard that for centuries was nourished by the waters of the Tibi Reservoir, the oldest operational dam in Europe.
Its most distinctive feature is the Torres de la Huerta, defensive towers built between the 15th and 17th centuries to warn of Berber pirate attacks and now declared a Cultural Heritage Site. In Sant Joan, you can find the Ansaldo, La Cadena, Salafranca, and Bonanza towers.
In the 19th century, its proximity to Alicante turned the town into a summer retreat for high society, leading to the construction of estates and mansions such as Abril, Buena Vista, La Paz, and La Princesa. Personalities like Emilio Castelar, Benito Pérez Galdós, Isaac Peral, and the poet Ramón de Campoamor spent time here.
