History

The Cooperativa Petrer was founded in 1908 as an Agricultural Union and Rural Savings and Loan Association. In its early days, it focused on local winemaking, consolidating itself with the opening of its first winery in 1912.

Over the decades, the cooperative has evolved, merging in the 1980s with the Bodega de Viticultores San Isidro and significantly expanding its facilities. Today, it is an important reference in the DOP Alicante, encompassing various wine varieties from the region, such as the emblematic Monastrell and the highly regarded Fondillón, a historic wine that has resonated in European courts since the Renaissance.

Petrer, located in the heart of the Vinalopó region, is known for its wine landscape, where the Mediterranean climate favors the cultivation of dry-farmed vineyards. The DOP Alicante reflects this diversity, with wines that capture the essence of the region.

The Cooperativa Petrer, from its foundations to the present day, has been and continues to be linked to this tradition, creating connections between winemaking practices and the cultural legacy of the area. With the advent of the 21st century, the cooperative has also stepped into the future, modernizing and betting on digitization in its processes.

This balance between tradition and modernity is part of its DNA, reaffirming its commitment to quality and innovation in the wine sector. Thus, Cooperativa Petrer not only produces wine but also becomes an ambassador of the cultural and gastronomic richness that the DOP Alicante has to offer.

Philosophy

The philosophy of the Cooperativa Petrer is based on a deep connection with the winemaking traditions of the area. Emphasizing an artisanal approach, they seek to maintain the traditional practices that have defined wine production in Alicante.

This respect for cultural heritage is complemented by an openness to innovation, where new technologies and approaches are integrated to enrich the wine experience. Among their creations, the 'Valle del Cid Edición Limitada' wine stands out, reflecting the characteristic varieties of the region and the dedication to quality in each bottle.

Their commitment to the creation and marketing of new products, along with the local winemaking heritage, positions the cooperative as a key player in the enological landscape of the DOP Alicante.

The vineyard

The vineyard of the Cooperativa Petrer is situated in a privileged environment, with a Mediterranean climate that provides optimal conditions for grape growth. The combination of dry lands and meticulous care allows for the production of wines that reflect the authenticity of the Alicante landscape.

This wine landscape, which extends across the Vinalopó region, is characterized by hills and plains where the vineyards are a central component, in an environment where natural beauty blends with agricultural production. The proximity of the cooperative to the coast of Marina Alta adds a special nuance to the terroir, influencing the flavors found in their wines.
