Garnacha Blanca

Garnacha Blanca is the white version of Garnacha, one of the great grape families of the Mediterranean. Originating from the northeastern region of the Iberian Peninsula and southern France, it is also cultivated in the province of Alicante, where it produces full-bodied whites with Mediterranean character, either on its own or blended with local varieties.

A white mutation of Garnacha tinta, Garnacha Blanca has been traditionally grown in Aragón, Catalonia, and the Rhone Valley, and is part of the rich heritage of Garnacha in the Mediterranean arc. Its presence in Alicante is rooted in the tradition of this family of varieties, closely linked to the warm, dry climate of the southeastern Iberian Peninsula.

It is a vigorous and productive variety with medium ripening. It yields full-bodied white wines with moderate acidity and good structure, suitable for both young consumption and aging. Its oily character and volume on the palate distinguish it from lighter whites.

It offers aromas of ripe white fruit — apple, pear — hints of fennel and Mediterranean herbs, and floral notes, with a broad finish and a slight anise touch.

With a medium cycle, it adapts well to poor soils and the warm, bright climate of inland Alicante, where it achieves balanced ripeness.
