Colec. Toneles Centenarios

History

The Colección de Toneles Centenarios winery originates from an extraordinary find: a set of 25 old barrels that had been forgotten for over 60 years. This discovery, made in 2015, allowed for the revival of a historical legacy that seeks to reclaim the traditional viticulture of Alicante.

In a municipality like Cañada, framed within the DOP Alicante, the winery not only recovers the winemaking heritage but also integrates into a rich oenological culture that has been valued since the Renaissance, when Fondillón, made from Monastrell, captivated European courts. The DOP Alicante is known for its diversity, combining emblematic varieties such as Monastrell and Moscatel de Alicante.

In this context, the winery is committed to staying true to traditional Alicante viticulture and winemaking practices, thereby reflecting a heritage intertwined with the region's wine history. Since its recovery, Colección de Toneles Centenarios has set out to pay homage to both the past and the future of Alicante wines, crafting products that speak of their place of origin.

With a philosophy centered on minimal intervention and a biodynamic approach, the winery aims to keep alive the connection with the land and climate that characterize this comarca. In Cañada, tradition and innovation meet, creating wines that are not only the result of an exquisite winemaking process but also of a profound respect for the viticultural environment that brings them to life.

Philosophy

The philosophy of Colección de Toneles Centenarios is based on a commitment to respect the ancestral practices of Alicante viticulture. The winery is dedicated to crafting wines with a minimal intervention approach, meaning that each bottle is a faithful representation of the terroir it comes from.

By utilizing techniques that embrace biodynamics, it seeks not only quality but also the sustainability of winemaking processes. The cultivated varieties such as Monastrell, Arcos, Giró, Tortosí, and Verdil reflect the varietal heritage of the region.

These grapevines, adapted to the climatic conditions of the municipality of Cañada, allow for the creation of characteristic wines that celebrate the richness and diversity of the DOP Alicante, always in harmony with local winemaking tradition.

The vineyard

The winemaking landscape surrounding Cañada is a true delight for the senses. With vineyards extending across Mediterranean terrain and a variety of microclimates enriching the cultivation, the region offers an ideal environment for viticulture.

The inland areas, along with coastal zones, provide a mosaic of landscapes ranging from dry land to fertile grounds where vines can thrive. The Mediterranean climate, which gently caresses the vineyards, is conducive to the development of indigenous varieties such as Monastrell.

This climate, characterized by mild winters and warm, dry summers, not only promotes vine growth but also contributes to the quality and uniqueness of the wines produced at the winery, always in tune with the natural conditions of the comarca.
