History
The Primitivo Quiles winery was founded in 1948, a year that marks the ongoing tradition in the production of Fondillón, a wine that was already revered during the Renaissance. This historic wine, made from overripe Monastrell grapes, has symbolized the viticultural richness of the Vinalopó region and gained recognition in various European courts.
The importance of Fondillón in wine culture dates back to documents mentioning that Japanese princes valued it, as well as the English parliament's prohibition in 1560 that limited its sale without the consent of Queen Elizabeth I, highlighting its status at the time. In this context, the winery has preserved and adapted its heritage, offering visitors the chance to explore a history rich in traditions.
Philosophy
At Primitivo Quiles, wine production is based on respect for tradition and the uniqueness of the area. With an emphasis on emblematic varieties such as Monastrell, the winery is part of the Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) Alicante, known for its varietal richness.
